What is BBSST?
The Alabama Administrative Code has established the Building Based Student Support Team (BBSST) as a designated school-based committee designed to meet the needs of general education students at-risk of failure due to academics, behavior, or potential drop-out. The BBSST committee develops a plan of action for students who are referred. These plans are carried out in regular education classes only. BBSST is not for students with an active IEP or 504 Plan, students in IB, AP, Gifted, Magnet, Honors, or other advanced classes of choice. BBSST is a service for students with chronic academic and/or behavior challenges in general education classes, career technology, and alternative education classes.
Once a plan is developed for a student who has been referred the following takes place:
•· The teacher takes responsibility to implement and strategies and methods outlined in the plan.
•· An administrator monitors and documents the teacher's implementation of the plan.
•· Support and assistance are provided for the teacher and the student to resolve the diverse problems/challenges of multi-level abilities in the general education classroom.
•· Records are kept and reported to the district BBSST coordinator, and to the State in accordance to the specific guidelines set forth in the BBSST manual.
